Patron saint or supreme master of noise. Masami
Akita deserves both titles. Highly influential artist - a status
that only the chosen ones can achieve - with a vast career and
extensive discography, he managed to successfully re-invent
himself during the last few years after being presented, experimenting
and finally embracing the digital age with its infinite possibilities
and perspectives.
Every new album of his new laptop era is a dive into fresh and
exciting ideas, with a growing taste for more complex, surprisingly
catchy structures and once unlikely rhythms, not abandoning
the intense walls of disturbing noise and occasional bursts
of sound from the beloved EMS synth.

» Words on previous releases:
"Despite sonic evidence to the contrary, Merzbow does have roots. He has spoken of his early admiration for everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Iannis Xenakis, and elaborated at length on the meaning of his uses of bondage and porn images with some of his music. (...) Masami Akita is his own context, and listeners enter that world at their own risk."
Dominique Leone (Pitchfork
Media)
"The myriad of ways in which Akita destroys, demolishes, and alters these sounds makes it clear that his many years of dedication to experimental audio work has taught him a lot of worthy lessons. We can all be glad of our continued opportunities to enjoy the results."
Mason Jones (Dusted
magazine)
"Criticisms of the genre are plagued with the notion that the majority of noise records produced all sound alike. Merzbow isn't content to follow the sheep. Instead, he's opted to put them on his record."

» Some of the albums that inspired Masami Akita on
Sha Mo 3000:
 |
Lula Côrtes & Zé Ramalho - Paebirú (1974)
One of the world's rarest albums (most copies were destroyed
after a flood in the label's office). An insane masterpiece
of dark and acid psychedelia with strange acoustic and electric
instrumentation, fuzz guitars and sound techniques similar
to the ones used by legendary krautrockers like Faust and
Can. Mythic.
» Listen to "Trilha
de Sumé" |
 |
Módulo 1000 - Năo Fale Com Paredes (1972)
Another weird monster rarity from the most obscure Brazilian
vaults. Wild experimental psychedelic rock never listed
on the influential Nurse
With Wound list.

est Sine Crine Caput" |
